Identification
23-29 cm
Photos show this species has a heart-shaped face usually considered typical of the genus Tyto

Distribution
Itombwe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This is a poorly known species: including sight records and specimens, this species has been seen four times.
Second specimen in 50 years was ringed in the mountains of eastern DRC in 1996.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
It was formerly assigned to genus Phodilus.
Habitat
Montane gallery forest and slopes with bushes and grass above this habitat.
Behaviour
Little known -- apparently nocturnal[3].
