Identification
Male 56-76cm (22-30 in); Female 50cm (20 in)
Male: Greyish with a white-throat. Pinkish facial skin and green to purple ocelli above.
Female: Darker or plainer then the male, with less distinct ocelli.
Distribution
North east India and Bhutan east to far southern China, south to the base of the Thai-Malay Peninsula, central Laos, and central Vietnam.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1]. Formerly, up to four subspecies were recognized.
Hainan Peacock-Pheasant was formerly included in this species.
Habitat
Dense broadleaved evergreen forest.
Behaviour
Diet
Their varied diet consists of berries, fruits, seeds, figs, grubs and ants,.
Breeding
They display by erecting the small crest, fanning out his wings and tail, showing the female his Ocelli in all their glory.
