• Pale throat
• Reddish breast

Distribution

Central and South America
Central America: Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 7 subspecies^[1]:

• S. a. canigularis:

• Costa Rica and western Panama (Chiriquí)

• S. a. propinquus:

• Santa Marta Mountains (north-eastern Colombia)

• S. a. albigularis:

• Tropical eastern Colombia to Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago

• S. a. kunanensis:

• North-eastern Venezuela (Paría Peninsula)

• S. a. zamorae:

• Eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru and south-western Amazonian Brazil

• S. a. kempffi:

• North-eastern Bolivia (Serrania Huanchaca)

• S. a. albicollis:

• Northern Bolivia (south to western Santa Cruz)

Habitat

Rain forests.

Behaviour

Spends much of its time on the rainforest floor.

Diet

Their diet consists of small frogs and spiders etc.

Breeding

It nests in burrows in an earth bank
