16–18 cm

  • Pale throat
  • Reddish breast

Distribution

Central and South America
Central America: Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil

  • Northern Bolivia (south to western Santa Cruz)

Habitat

Rain forests.

Behaviour

Spends much of its time on the rainforest floor.

Diet

Their diet consists of small frogs and spiders etc.

Breeding

It nests in burrows in an earth bank
