Siberia, Mongolia and Japan; winters to Indonesia and Philippines


This is a monotypic species[1].

Coniferous and open forests, feeding in dense thicket or leaf litter.



The 4-6 eggs are laid in a tree nest.


The diet includes insects, earthworms and berries.
