Identification

50cm.

  • Grey upperparts, spotted brown
  • Whitish underparts with brown streaks
  • Silver-streaked brown head, crest, neck and breast
  • White wing bar visible in flight
  • Thick yellow bill

Distribution

Acacia savanna of central and east Africa
Western Africa: Chad, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea and DRC
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Open woodland, grassland and forest edges.

Behaviour

Rarely seen on the ground.

Breeding

It builds a platform nest, the clutch consisting of 2-3 eggs.

Diet

The diet includes fruit (especially figs) and plant material.
