- Large white loral spot continuing as broad white moustache, white spot behind eye
- Black side of head, buff spot on side of neck
- Olive-brown upperparts
- White upper chin and centre of throat
- Black lower chin and side of throat
- Buff lower throat and breast, olive-brown sides and flanks
- White belly streaked black
- Dark brown eye
- Black bill
Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Found locally in the central Andes of southern Colombia and Ecuador.
A restricted-range species, known only from few localities.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Undergrowth in humid montane forest and adjacent secondary woodland. Occurs at 2900 - 3400m.
Higher than Slate-crowned Antpitta where ranges overlap.
Behaviour
Feeds on spiders and insects.
Forages solitary or in pairs, hopping quietly through undergrowth, often flicking with wings. Occasionally on the ground to pick prey. Does not follow mixed-species flocks.
Fledged young recorded in March, song heard from January to April in Ecuador. No other information about breeding.
Presumably a sedentary species.
