Identification
Length 30cm
Dark reddish-brown above with indistinct dusky barring. Dark cinnamon brown below, crown blackish, sides of head slaty, upper throat white, lower throat grey.
Female is darker above and has slaty breast and flanks.
Legs reddish.
Distribution
Extreme eastern Panama and north-western Colombia.
Rare in Panama and only recorded since 1970 on slopes of Cerro Qua in eastern Darien. Since then also reported on Cerro Pirre above Cana.
Resident.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Humid forest up to 750m.

Vocalisation
A hollow mournful "whoh-whoh-ah," like Slaty-breasted Tinamou.
