Description

A genus of tyrant flycatchers from Central and South America.

Taxonomy

Mionectes is a genus in the family Tyrannidae. The species included here fall in two groups:

The division between the two groups have been dated using DNA methods to about 7 million years ago, which is as deep as several other divisions that are recognized as different genera, but SACC have felt that the phenotypic difference between the species groups in this case is not big enough.
