Blue Cotinga - BirdForum Opus

Cotinga nattererii

Identification

19 cm. Notice head and bill shape gives a dove-like impression
Male

  • Turquoise blue plumage
  • Dark blue wing, throat, and belly patches
  • Black around eye and in area on back

Female

  • All over scaly impression due to dark brown feathers broadly edged buff
  • Includes buffy throat and eye-ring

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Tropical moist forest, essentially in lowland.

Behaviour

Mostly at the canopy or even on a branch protruding above the canopy. Fruit is main food source.
