Blue-cheeked Amazon - BirdForum Opus

Identification

34 cm (13½ in)

  • Green plumage
  • Blue cheeks
  • Yellow-orange wing patch
  • Yellowish crown
  • Orange lores

Distribution

South America: found in south-eastern Venezuela (Gran Sabana) to the Guianas and possibly adjacent Brazil.

Taxonomy

This was formerly considered conspecific with Red-browed Amazon.

Subspecies

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Rainforest, cloud forest and savanna woodlands up to 1700m. They also visit coastal sand-ridge forests.

Behaviour

Diet

On visits to the coast, they eat Sandbox Tree seeds and most likely eat mimosa and other berries too. No other information available.

Breeding

The only information seems to be from captive birds, who lay 3 eggs, with incubation lasting 23-26 days.
