Identification

83-93 cm
Male

  • Black
  • White vent and tip to tail
  • Horn-coloured bill
  • Fleshy blue cere and hanging wattle
  • Curled, black crest feathers
  • Pinkish legs.

  • Black
  • Black and white crest feathers
  • Fine white barring on wings and tail
  • Rufous lower belly and undertail
  • Bluish base to bill

Distribution

South America: found in the humid forests of northern Colombia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1], formerly considered conspecific with Yellow-knobbed Curassow.

Habitat

Moist lowland forests, up to 1,200 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Mainly ground-feeders, their diets consists of fruit, shoots, invertebrates and possibly carrion.
