Identification

15 cm (6 in)

  • Dark overall plumage
  • Black throat

Distribution

Central America: found in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species1.
Sooty-headed Wren Pheugopedius spadix has been split from the present species.
Was formerly placed in genus Thryothorus with all other species of the genus Pheugopedius.

Habitat

Regenerated forest clearings and second growth lowland and foothill forests.

Behaviour

Diet

There is little information available about their diet, but it would appear to consist mostly of insects and spiders, foraged in the undergrowth.
