- Anisognathus notabilis
Identification
18cm. (7in.) A strikingly colourful bird typical of the mountain-tanagers. Head and nape black with a small stripe of yellow on top of head. Back and rump yellow-olive. Wings and tail black with blue edging, often difficult to see.
Distribution
Western Ecuador, western Colombia on west slope of the Andes, mostly between 1400m and 3200m elevation.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Canopy and borders of foothills and subtropical forest.
Behaviour
Occurs often in pairs, sometimes moves in small flocks with the similar (but more common) Blue-winged Mountain Tanager. Forages on the edges of clearings, often remaining on the same branch long enough to permit close approach.
