Identification
19–23 cm (7½-9 in)
- Glossy blue-black overall plumage
- White throat and auricular patch, separated by broad black band
- Narrow white nuchal collar
Sexes are similar.
Distribution
Humid forests of eastern Panama to western Colombia and north-western Ecuador
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Tropical wet forest, second growth woodland, often near running water.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of large centipedes, millipedes, scorpions, spiders, roaches, grasshoppers or katydids.
Breeding
Both adults excavate an 18cm deep nest hole in arboreal termitarium.
