Iole indica

Identification

20 cm (7¾ in)

  • Yellow brow, orbital area, face and throat
  • Olive upperparts
  • Bill is slightly de-curved
  • Large dark eyes

Asia: found in India, Eastern Himalayas and Sri Lanka

Taxonomy

Sometimes placed in genus Iole.

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • I. i. icterica:
  • Western India (western Ghats from southern Maharashtra to Belgaum and Goa)
  • I. i. indica:
  • South-western India and Sri Lanka (except for south-west)
  • I. i. guglielmi:
  • South-western Sri Lanka

Habitat

Evergreen jungle, sholas and coffee shade-trees, wet forests and forest edges.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of fruit and seeds with the addition of insects, including spiders. They're also sometimes eat flowers.
