Identification
20 cm (7¾ in)
- Yellow brow, orbital area, face and throat
- Olive upperparts
- Bill is slightly de-curved
- Large dark eyes
Distribution
Asia: found in India, Eastern Himalayas and Sri Lanka
Taxonomy
Sometimes placed in genus Iole.
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- I. i. icterica:
- Western India (western Ghats from southern Maharashtra to Belgaum and Goa)
- I. i. indica:
- South-western India and Sri Lanka (except for south-west)
- I. i. guglielmi:
- South-western Sri Lanka
Habitat
Evergreen jungle, sholas and coffee shade-trees, wet forests and forest edges.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of fruit and seeds with the addition of insects, including spiders. They're also sometimes eat flowers.
