Cyornis tickelliae

Identification

14–15 cm (5½-6 in)
Male:

  • Bright blue upperparts
  • Red throat and breast
  • White underparts

Female:

  • Duller
  • Less red on the breast

Juvenile:

  • Scaly brown upperparts, head and breast
  • Blue wings and tail

Habitat

Open dry forest, deciduous woods, scrub, coffee plantations, bamboo and gardens.

Behaviour

Diet

There is not a lot of information, but they are known to eat invertebrates and larvae.

Breeding

They are territorial and nest in a tree hole or amongst rocks. The clutch consists of 3-5 eggs.
