Identification
17-19cm. Grey-brown back and wings, white belly, white breast with one black neckband, brown cap, white forehead, black mask around the eyes and a short orange and black bill.
Distribution
North, Central and South America. Breeds in northern Canada and Alaska migrating south in winter. Immatures can remain in wintering grounds in their second summer.

A monotypic species.
Habitat
Open ground on beaches.
Behaviour
They nest on the ground in an open area.
The diet includes insects, crustaceans and worms. They forage for food on beaches and tidal flats.
