Variation

Subspecies sarawacensis is brighter yellow while subspecies kinabaluensis lacks yellow and is mostly grey.

Distribution

Southeast Asia: found in Malay Peninsula, (Malaysia and possibly into Thailand) as well as Greater and Lesser Sundas (Borneo, Brunei, Sumatra, Java, and Bali, east to Lombok and Sumbawa in Indonesia)

Negros Leaf Warbler was formerly included in this species.

Clements recognizes the below subspecies [1]. Ranges given for each of these do not come from Clements but instead from a field guide for the area, as the authors have local knowledge[2].

  • P.t. parvirostris: Malay Peninsula
  • P.t. trivirgatus: Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok, and Sumbawa
  • P.t. kinabaluensis: Mountains of north-eastern Borneo (Mt. Kinabalu)
  • P.t. sarawacensis: Mountains of the rest of Borneo (Poi Mountains of western Sarawak)

Habitat

Broadleaf montane and evergreen submontane forests down to 800 m asl in most areas and to 450 m in Lumbok and Sumbawa.
