Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil
Taxonomy
The recently described Dry-forest Sabrewing is included here as subspecies calcirupicola. Clements already splits the species, however the Opus awaits the decision of other checklists.
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- C. l. largipennis:
- C. l. obscurus:
- C. l. calcirupicola:
- Eastern Brazil (southeastern Goiás, southwestern Bahia, and northern Minas Gerais)
- C. l. diamantinensis:
- South-eastern Brazil (Serra Espinhaço in Minas Gerais)
Subspecies aequatorialis is included under C.i. obscurus.
Habitat
Humid lowland, river-edge forests E of Andes, observed at heights between 488 m (1,600 ft) and 860 m (2,822 ft).
calcirupicola is found in dry forests.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of nectar.
Breeding
They build a cup-shaped nest from moss.
