Subspecies
There are 9 subspecies[1]:
- T. c. puella: Tropical and subtropical central Mexico to western Panama
- T. c. extimus: Subtropical eastern Panama
- T. c. heothinus: Eastern Panama (Darién)
- T. c. virginalis: Western Colombia to western Ecuador and north-western Peru
- T. c. subtropicalis: Central Colombia
- T. c. collaris: Eastern Colombia to Bolivia, Venezuela and the Guianas
- T. c. castaneus: Tropical eastern Colombia to north-western Brazil, eastern Peru and northern Bolivia
- T. c. exoptatus: Northern Colombia, northern Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago
- T. c. eytoni: Eastern Brazil
Habitat
Edge of humid forest and in woodland. In both primary and secondary growth.
Behaviour
Breeding
It nests in a hole in a termite nest or tree. The clutch consists of 2 white eggs.
Diet
The diet includes insects and fruit.
Vocalisation
Call: caow, caow, caow.
