Identification

  • Brown upperparts
  • Red rump
  • Rufous underparts speckled white
  • Orange-red throat band

Female

  • Dull white throat band
  • Paler underparts

Juvenile

  • Lighter upperparts
  • Brown grey head

Distribution

Africa:
Western Africa: South-eastern Nigeria to southern Chad, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, DRC, northern Angola
Eastern Africa: southern Sudan,western Kenya, western Uganda

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1] which makes it the only member of its genus.

Habitat

Grasslands, shrubby areas, savannas, forests.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects, spiders and grass seeds.

Breeding

The clutch consists of 4-6 eggs which is incubated for 13 days. The young fledge about 20 days later.
