Chaetornis striata

Identification

20 cm.

  • Buffy-brown
  • Dark streaks
  • Short, thick bill
  • Bill of breeding male black with black interior of mouth and dark grey facial skin

Distribution

Patchily distributed in the Indian subcontinent: found in Nepal, Pakistan and India.

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Tall grassland, reeds, riverine, swamps, thorny scrub or ricefields.

Song: trew-treuw usually given in circular display flight.
