Overview

Birds

Notable Species

The most notable species in Barbuda is the Barbuda Warbler, the only endemic bird found in the country of Antigua and Barbuda. A lot of visitors will point to the spectacular Magnificent Frigatebird colony found in mangrove in Codrington Lagoon as their best bird-related experience.

Areas of Interest

You can find a boat to the Magnificent Frigatebird colony from the boat landing in Codrington. A fee for each tourist will go to the community. The colony itself is a magnificent showing of nesting frigatebirds, and in mid winter, you can additionally see displaying male frigatebirds trying to attract the attention of females. By planning ahead, the visit can be combined with lunch at a restaurant on the sand bar at the far side of the lagoon.

The Barbuda Warbler is found in the scrub/forest areas of Barbuda. Lately, the best area seems to be called Fig Tree.

Access and Facilities

Winair has two flights a day, so it is possible to see the main attractions on Barbuda in a one day visit (as long as the weather cooperates). There is also a ferry, but it does not provide a daily connection.
