Adur Estuary RSPB Reserve

Within the town of Shoreham-by-Sea in Sussex this reserve consists of part of the estuary of the River Adur and the major habitats are tidal mudflats and saltmarsh.

Most of the commoner European waders can be seen here in winter and during passage periods, scarcer species such as Little Stint and Curlew Sandpiper also occur. Shelduck can also be seen as well as Teal, Mallard and Mute Swan. Gulls are numerous, mainly the commoner species but sometimes including Mediterranean, and Yellow-legged now occurs in some numbers from July until September.

The estuary can be viewed from adjacent footpaths and particularly from the south side between the footbridge and the A259 Norfolk Bridge. Shoreham-by-Sea is west of Brighton and can be reached on the A27 road.
