Identification
- Dark brown plumage
- White breast
- Chestnut cap
- Narrow orange collar on upper back
- Orange spot at side of neck
- Black collar on upper breast
- Black eye stripe across lower eye from side to bill
- Two parallel bright white stripes
- Stout, short, decurved black bill
- Short light-buff whiskered moustachial feathers
- Black iris and legs
Distribution
South America: found in south-eastern Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, northern Bolivia and western Amazonian Brazil.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1]; subspecies caurensis generally being considered invalid[2].
Habitat
Humid lowland forest near water at forest edges but can also be found in scrubby forest away from water.
