Identification

28cm

  • Dark bluish-green head
  • Dark bronze green back, mantle and underparts
  • Dark blue wings, rump and tail
  • White chin patch
  • Pink speckled upper breast
  • Pale yellow bill
  • Bare pink eye ring

Juvenile

  • White eyering
  • Brown underparts

Distribution

South America: found in humid forests of north-eastern Colombia, western Venezuela, Ecuador, north-western Peru.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Subspecies cyanescens is generally considered invalid[1].

Habitat

1,200-2,400m

Behaviour

Breeding

The nests are place in tree cavities. The clutch of 3-4 white eggs is incubated by the female for 26 days.
