Identification
Distribution
From the Indian Subcontinent and Sri Lanka east to Thailand, southern China, Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Borneo.
Taxonomy
Formerly included in Great Tit, together with Japanese Tit.
Subspecies[1]
Cinereous Tit
- P. c. cashmirensis: North-eastern Afghanistan to northern Pakistan and north-western India
- P. c. ziaratensis: Southern Afghanistan to northern Baluchistan and Pakistan
- P. c. decolorans: South-eastern Afghanistan (east of Kabul and south of the Hindu Kush)
- P. c. nipalensis: Northern India to Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and western Myanmar
- P. c. vauriei: Eastern Assam (Lakhimpur district) and eastern Arunachal Pradesh
- P. c. stupae: Central and peninsular India
- P. c. mahrattarum: South-western India (Kerala) and Sri Lanka
- P. c. templorum: North-eastern Thailand to southern Laos and southern Vietnam
- P. c. hainanus: Hainan (southern China)
- P. c. ambiguus: South-eastern Myanmar, peninsular Thailand, Malaya and Sumatra
- P. c. cinereus: Java and western Lesser Sundas
- P. c. sarawacensis: Borneo (western Sarawak)
- P. c. nigriloris: Southern Ryukyu Islands (Ishigaki and Iriomote)
- P. c. commixtus: Southern China (south of the Yangtze) to Hong Kong and eastern Tonkin
The subspecies nigriloris and commixtus are placed in Japanese Tit by Gill and Donsker.

Breeding
Breeds in all kinds of woodland (incl. in desolate taiga in far north) and in immediate proximity of man in parks and gardens.
Diet
Insects and seeds, suet, beech nuts etc.
