Identification

12 cm

Distribution

South America: found in Peru and western Bolivia.

Taxonomy

Has been placed in genus ;Ochthoeca in the past.

Subspecies

There are two subspecies[1]:

  • O. p. similis:
  • Eastern slope of Andes of Peru (southern Amazonas to Junín)
  • O. p. pulchellaL
  • Andes of south-eastern Peru (Cuzco and Ayacucho) to western Bolivia

Habitat

Humid montane forest and forest borders with scrub and thickets.

Behaviour

Usually seen alone - sometimes in pairs and very rarely with other species.

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects and beetles.
