Distribution
South America: found in Peru and western Bolivia.
Taxonomy
Has been placed in genus ;Ochthoeca in the past.
Subspecies
This is a polytypic species[1 consisting of 2 subspecies.
- S. p. similis:
- Eastern slope of Andes of Peru (southern Amazonas to Junín)
- S. p. pulchella
- Andes of south-eastern Peru (Cuzco and Ayacucho) to western Bolivia
Habitat
Humid montane forest and forest borders with scrub and thickets.
Behaviour
Usually seen alone - sometimes in pairs and very rarely with other species.
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of insects and beetles.
