Taxonomy

Two subspecies are recognized:

  • persicus breeds in Arabian Sea and surrounding areas
  • temptator breeds on Mohéli Island (Comoro Islands)

This taxon is considered a subspecies of Audubon's Shearwater by some authors[2]
