Identification

Male - mostly yellow with black hood, wings and tail centre.
Female - duller, underparts greenish, black hood.
Young birds similar to the female. However, they have dark streaking on the underparts, hood is not solid black, particularly on the throat.

Distribution

Southern Asia from India and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia.

Taxonomy

There are 5 subspecies.

Habitat

Open woodland tree canopy and cultivation.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects and fruit, especially figs.

Breeding

It nests in trees and 2 eggs are laid.
