Overview
Close to Abisko but still remote and rather inaccessible this national park is the most northerly in Sweden and lies close to the Norwegian border.
It is dominated by Mt Vadvetjakko and much of the park consists of alpine meadows although there are also patches of birch forest, marshes and lakes. The area is important for passage waterfowl and waders.
Birds
Notable Species
Breeding birds of the uplands include Golden Eagle and Rough-legged Buzzard, Rock Ptarmigan and Eurasian Eagle Owl.
In the wetter areas there are Taiga Bean Goose and Common Crane, Common Greenshank, Common Redshank, Wood Sandpiper and Jack Snipe and the woodlands have Siberian Jay, Siberian Tit and Pine Grosbeak.
