Hylopezus dives

Identification

13–14 cm (5-5½ in)

  • Dark grey crown and nape
  • Pale yellowish-brown lores and narrow eye ring
  • Greyish-brown auri­culars
  • Buff moustache

Distribution

Central and South America
Central America: found in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia and Ecuador

Taxonomy

This is a polytypic species[1] consisting of 3 subspecies.

Formerly, both White-lored Antpitta and Thicket Antpitta were considered to be the same species with the name Fulvous-bellied Antpitta.

  • M. d. flammulatus:
  • Caribbean slope of western Panama (Bocas del Toro)
  • M. d. barbacoae:
  • Lowlands of eastern Panama (Darien) and western Colombia (Narino)


Habitat

Found around forest streams in dense thickets and vines.

Behaviour

Diet

They forage on the ground and on logs for insects and spiders.
