Male
- Black forehead and fore-crown
- Red hind-crown, nape and moustache
The female has a black moustache.
A very variable species regarding darkness and shape of dark markings.
Distribution
Central and South America
Eastern Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, The Guianas, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.
Taxonomy
Some authorities place this species in genus Chrysoptilus.
