Identification

11–12 cm (4¼-4¾ in)

  • Noticeable supercilium
  • Dark eyestripe
  • Brown upper mandible
  • Yellow under mandible
  • Grey underparts

Distribution

Asia: Izu Islands (southern Japanese Archipelago); winters to northern Philippines

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Occurs in the lowlands in deciduous and subtropical mixed evergreen forests and forest edges.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects and seeds.

They forage alone or in small groups. They may also be found feeding with other species, particularly Long-tailed Tit.
