Identification

9·5–10·5 cm (3¾-4 in)
Male

Black crown and nape
Whitish supercilium
Thin dark line through eye
Olive back
Cinnamon-rufous rump
Olive uppertail-coverts

Distribution

Central and South America: found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

Four subspecies are recognized^[1]:

E. c. callinota:

Costa Rica to Ecuador and northern Peru

E. c. venezuelana:

North West Venezuela (Sierra de Perijá), Mérida and Barinas

E. c. guianensis:

South Guyana (Acari Mountains) and adjacent central Suriname

E. c. peruviana:

Central Peru (San Martín to Junín and Cusco)

Habitat

Found in the canopy and edges of montane evergreen forests at around 600–2400 m

Behaviour

Diet

There is little information. Their diet consists of beetles, spiders and larvae.
