- Capito auratus
Identification
Male: orange-red throat and yellow unmarked chest with browny streaks on the flanks of the belly.
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil
Taxonomy
Formerly considered conspecific with Black-spotted Barbet. Several subspecies have been assigned to Black-spotted Barbet by Clements but are all now moved to this species.
Subspecies
There are 8 subspecies[1]:

- North-eastern Peru (mouth of Río Napo s along Amazon and Río Ucayali)
- C. a. insperatus:
- C. a. aurantiicinctus:
- Venezuela (upper Orinoco region, western Bolivar and Amazonas)
- C. a. orosae:
- C. a. amazonicus:
- Western Brazil south of Rio Solimões from upper Rio Jurúa east to Rio Purús
- C. a. nitidior:
- C. a. hypochondriacus:
- Northern Brazil (Roraima along Rio Branco to Rio Negro and Solimões)
