Identification
This species was described in 2011 based on a specimen collected in 1963.
It's the smalles shearwater. The plumage is black and white, the bill black or blue-grey and the legs are blue.
Distribution
The specimen was found on Midway Atoll, Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
Birds collected in Ogasawara Islands (south of Japan) have been proved to belong to this species too.
The breeding grounds are not known.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It's distantly related to Boyd's Shearwater.
