Identification

9–10 cm; the only euphonia in its range with white lores.

Sexually dimorphic

Distribution

South America: found throughout the Amazon basin in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies^[1]

E. c. chrysopasta:

Tropical south-eastern Colombia to Bolivia and adjacent western Brazil

E. c. nitida:

Eastern Colombia to southern Venezuela, the Guianas and northern Brazil

Habitat

Canopy of humid Amazon lowland forest, river edges and swamps. Observed at heights around 290 m.

Diet

Their diet consists of fruit and insects.
