red kites

Dear All,

Just to note that two red kites are now pretty regular on a morning (8-8.30am) over the A64, one between Seacroft and the garden centre and the other between the Red Bus Cafe and the Dogs Trust, both usually pretty low down.

regards
Michael

Found a stunning male Lesser Spotted Woodpecker north of Leeds this afternoon which becomes the best bird on the bike list to date. Near continuous scope views for twenty minutes. Made me wish I was a photographer. Also lots of Golden Plover with Lapwings in the fields beyond Eccup, Kingfisher along Adel Beck and a Brambling in Chapel Allerton park. Plenty of Redwings around but no Fieldfares yet.

what are the chances that this is the same bird that took up residence at Pugneys last winter?

it more than likely is. i think the last returning one was seen at swillington/allerton bywater for a number of years in the late 80s/90s,which i saw at swillington, but i was more interested in this

nothing better than finding your own lesser spotted woodpecker:t: i found a pair displaying and nest building in april 1990 at elland.the next day when i returned with my camera they had gone:-C so all i too was a photo of the nest hole:-C
i still see the now on my walks

Had a wander round the village today with my daughter. A Water Vole was seen on the village stream - a normal enough sight for round here. Later on I had a Siskin in the lone Alder by the mere. All of a sudden there were loads overhead in the air. Fingers crossed for garden this weekend.

For the last week I've been seeing loads of kestrels during my commute to Castleford and Pontefract. Tonight I struck the jackpot with 5 separate birds between the east of Garforth and the A64, all hovering at the side of the road. This after 10 years of logging a drop in their numbers over the same commute.
Anyone else noticing an increase in kestrel numbers?
