As well as the ringed GWE over the weekend, there have been three new BHGs in the last few days. These have been:

255F - white characters on a blue ring. This bird was ringed in Chester on 2/12/22 and has also been seen at Marsh Lane NR.

2HJN - white on black. This bird was ringed at Marsh Lane NR on 7/6/22. This was the first subsequent report.

24F2 - white on red. This bird was ringed at Belvide Reservoir on 8/6/19. This is the first sighting away from Belvide.

Don't think we've had a Chester bird before. Any more precise directions as to where the BHG colony is?
Chester is all that came back following submission (see attachment). It's one of the sites covered by the Waterbird Colour Marking Group co-ordinated by Kane Brides in the north-west. Therefore, the same scheme as other 'white on blue' ringed birds from other sites in the north-west.

An astonishing record of a well travelled ringed Avocet approaching its 33rd birthday, noted on the reserve on Thursday (11/05).
According to the BTO website this is the oldest Avocet ever recorded!!
The bird was sporting leg rings red over yellow on its left leg and yellow over metal (with code ER2787) on its right leg should it be seen again.
Thanks to Andy Pitt and John Belsey for the information.
