Hello

Picture June 12 by Marcel David Caraquet, NB at Pointe-Canot, NB

Any idea? Exotic?

common yellowthroat with partial albinism? (lack of pigment in the "mask")

Phantom of the aviary?

No clue what that bird is. Don't think it belongs here whatever it is.

Scott

The yellowthroat notion occurred to me, as did chat, but the tail seemed a bit long for the former, beak seems wrong for the latter, and neither shows that strange head shape. Also, does there not apear to be yellow above the beak on this bird?

Looking forward to other opinions.

Scott

I know the Blue Jay doesn't have a dark band from the corner of the bill in a curve round to the back of the ear coverts.....but found this pic with a hint of one.

I think by comparison to the tamarack buds it is sitting amongst, we can narrow the size of the bird down to something sparrow sized or smaller. What was your friend's impression of the size Marcel?

Also, if he heard it sing that would help a lot. If indeed it was a yellowthroat, the song is quite distinctive ("witchity witchity whitchity"). The more I look at it, the more I think it is a yellowthroat as One suggested.

I think this could be something asiatic (like a laughingthursh species or something related), but I do not know what exactly it could be...

Partial albino Yellowthroat looks like a good shout to me
Agreed. Colouring, structure, esp. bill, looks good. Black 'moustache' is exactly where lower edge of mask would normally be. I'd go for partially albninated Common Yellowthroat too.
