Hi. New to this site but glad I found it. I found this little fella walking on the gravel shoulder near a lake near Sharbot Lake, Ontario.
He was not particularly worried about me approaching. He seemed thirsty (beak open a bit). I sat a few feet away I gave him a bowl of water and some raw hamburger which he wolfed down. He was about 11-12 inches long black curved downwards beak. Black eyes. Any idea of type of bird, approximate age ?
Thank you
Tobysmum

Certainly a hawk... probably a red-tail. Seems to be missing some feathers on the head? In any event not acting too healthy. Maybe a recent fledgling? I'm not sure but I think I'm seeing the ground at the back of the bird, between wing primaries... in other words the tail is missing? Did you notice that? (Birds often fledge before their tails are properly grown... or the bird may have lost tail feathers to a predator... or I'm just reading too much into the photo.)

A juvenile Hawk for sure, but like the others who've commented it is a bit difficult to be certain on the species from this photo (I would tentatively lean toward Red-shouldered).
