UK Dragonflies and Damselflies 2025 (2 Viewers)

Has anyone had any success in finding Common Clubtail on the river Dee at Alford?

It's the one dragon I'd love to see and photograph.

So, if you have, any advice would be great regarding specific areas.

Thanks

Shep...

5 species so far this year in the garden:
Hairy Hawker
Broad-bodied Chaser
Banded Demoiselle
Large Red Damselfly
Azure Damselfly

One I have had in the past from the garden, but not a Damselfly I see many of anywhere, was this Variable Damselfly seen at RSPB Lakenheath earlier this week.

I managed to get up to 15 species for the year with Scarce Chaser yesterday and some Scarce Blue-tailed damselflies today (11.05) at a balancing pond for a recently built housing estate in our (used to be a) village on the northern edge of Southampton with the M27 droning nearby.

Had my first hairy dragonfly today kindly pointed out by a gentleman at North Point Pools at Wells next the Sea, also a mating pair of large red Damselfly

Male Downy Emerald seen again at the same small pond in Stoke Park, north Bristol (presumed same individual as on May 7th, but more than a week since the other sightings, and not seen on a few visits in between? 🤔). Also a Hairy Dragonfly seen there yesterday was only the 2nd for the patch. Patch now on 15 Odonata species for the year 😊

I expect you know this already but they do patrol energetically for at most 30 minutes and then disappear high up into the trees for a long rest so can be quite easily missed unless you have the time to stand at a pond all day :)

Managed to see Black-tailed Skimmer, Downy Emerald and Red-veined Darter new for the year on Southampton Common today (16.05.25). Takes me to 17 species within 5 miles of home. I would guess that it's my best start to a season but will have to check. The Red-veined Darters were on the boating lake.
