OLIVON T80 - opinions as a starter scope (1 Viewer)

submersiblesid

Novice but enthusiastic
I have the opportunity to purchase a second hand Olivon T80 and have read nothing but good reviews from retailers on the internet, but what is the opinion of those who really know or use this scope?
I appreciate that it's second hand and I understand the pitfalls that this entails, but what I'm really hoping for is anhonest comment of the optics.
I will be using this scope with an Olivon tripod for bird and wildlife watching.
Thanks in advance.

is this the scope? Looks fine if your getting a bargain, eg less than 100 quid for the scope.

AM not totally familiar with this model, but certain olivon scopes have the drawback of having the eyepice fixed tothe scope body. This is a major disadvantage.
You really want a scope where you can change eyepieces. The ep is highly important, as it has a major impact on optical quality of the image.

Olivon zooms are of ave quality. The ep will severly limit the scope.

`good reviews from retailers ` its called spin. The americans are busy spinning war in syria as a good plan.....dont always believe what you are told )

Are you able to check if the zoom can be unscrewd from the scope body? I suspect its glued in place.

Overall, I personally would not pay more than 80 quid for the scope.....because its has limited upgrade options.

Note : T80 and T90 will be replaced with T800 / T900 durning 2013 / 2014. The 800/900 series feature improved design and optics and include 1.25" interchangeable eyepices, prices will be around 15% higher than the T80/T90's

just read thison the official site:

I might be wrong, but i think thats the main loivon supplier for uk. I was shocked at their prices tbh. Almost 30% more than celestron.
