I just recently learned that those lovely spots are why they are called star-lings! (I believe this is their new feathers for winter.)

101 would be an entry level class in college (university). So he is saying it is basic bird knowledge something a beginner would know.

Just wanted to say that this is a beautiful photo of a starling! Thanks for sharing it! I wish the ones in my yard would hold still long enough for a good photo.
