Hi there..I recently found a local offer for a Nikon Spotting Scope, and three Eyepieces,a 20x a 30x and a 40X....this is an angled scope..similar to the current Fieldscope III ,and even closer to the Fieldscope II..but has no denomination of being a fieldscope..it is from the 80´s ,and when I asked If ti was an ED scope,I was answer that this was PRE-ED concept..only one model, instead of the current ED/non ED offer.....I havent seen the scope yet(all telephone description),the seller mentioned a model, but cant remember(WP?..i think ?)...ANY clue what I am talking about?..Eyepieces compatibility with current models?...Thanks

An angled scope with those particular magnifications would seem to only fit a Fieldscope II. Nikon made a less expensive black rubber armored spotting scope at about that time, but I don't think it was available angled or with those magnifications. A photo would help.

A photo would help, or if that is impossible, knowing whether it has a collar type or knob type focuser. All the fieldscopes except the 50ED have collar type focus. In any case, unless there was a model sold by Nikon that didn't make it to the US market, or unless some of the eyepieces being used with it aren't from Nikon, something must be wrong about the info. If it is a Nikon Scope, and it is angled, the only candidates are really from the 1990s--the Fieldscope II, or the Sky and Earth.

Nikon scopes during that era:
1981 original Fieldscope, which was first released as the "Spotting Scope". Straight only.
1989 Fieldscope II -- available straight and (a year later?) angled
1991 "Spotting Scope" model #7835 (not to be confused w/original fieldscope)--available straight only
1997 Sky and Earth 60 mm scopes--available straight and angled

Hey..Thanks for the account ...I was really wanting to get this info...
The scope I am talking about has a collar type focus.....aaand.. I was assuming ,that it is angled...if I think about,,,it was no mention of the configuration!!!....So the Field Scope I ...was ED or NON-ED?..and what about eyepieces ..Would they work with fieldscopes(specially ED50)?.Probably Yes.(.I think that older 20X must one mentioned by Nikon as to produce vignetting in the ED50...)

Just called the Seller...It is angled...WITH collar type focus...20x,30x aaand 40x eyepieces....oLD...Nikon.....White...Ill go see it and take a picture or two...I am curious now

thanks

Originally offered only as nonED, but eventually offered as both.

Old fieldscope eyepieces will fit newer fieldscope models, but not vice versa except for the 24/30x MC. The older eyepieces are not wide angle, and the 40x has poor eye-relief. Eyepieces made for other Nikon scopes do not fit the Fieldscopes.

My optimistic guess is that the seller is wrong about the vintage (or maybe it dates to exactly 1989), and that it is a Nikon Fieldscope II nonED. Even if other labeling is missing, you can tell if it is the ED version if it has a red line around the objective lens cell housing. My guess is that the eyepieces are the old non-wide angle 20x and 40x, along with a subsequently purchased 30x WF. If you are lucky, the 40x eyepiece could also be the WF version (The WF series eyepieces are in all practical respects identical to their MC successors, but they have folding eyecups).
