I guess at some point you have to decide whether to treat it like an art object or a tool. Legitimate arguments either way...
My concern was more regarding security than of cosmetic blemishes, but falling off is perhaps ultimately only a cosmetic blemish.

The Outdoorsman cap is a very precise fit over the end of the hinge, and the 3 set screws register in a deep groove. The cap isn't relying on just the friction of the set screws; because of the groove, all 3 screws would have to fail in shear.
