Red blotch?

What is the red blotch 27June2010 at 0703?

Mom was just in that spot feeding the chicks. Hope it isn't another injury to her talon.

Yes, Titchfield looked good... helps if you don't go when it's shut, as happened the first time we went! I like Farlington Marshes on the other side of Portsmouth.

Delia agree they are very tight with the opening hours - last time I was there the volunteers who I thought were just being friendly and chatty were actually trying to close the hide but I just kept pointing out things and asking questions :) untill it dawned on me it was 17:15 at the far end o:D. However I believe the reason is reduction in disturbance to the wildlife.
I was put off the marshes exiting car park onto the monstrosity of a roundabout where I had a near miss probably due to my unfamiliarity with the lanes (not my driving of course!)

Well all quiet on nest about to go a walk round Baron's Haugh this morning have not been out with camera for a while so will pop back on this afternoon and catch up.

Ah yes, that dreaded roundabout. What I did was to take first left, go down that road until I could turn round. Therev was no way I was getting across to the middle lane on that roundabout - we had to join the motorway going east.

There is another way in, parking at the top of Hayling Island, then take the footpath. In the winter you might see B-n Grebe in the bay there. See map.

Glad to see all's quiet just now Marge surveying her realm!

Enjoy the walk Tom!
Re your earlier post, yes i have indeed been fortunate in what i've witnessed so far, even if it includes drama of an exceptional height!!
One of the great things i find is the mix of experienced watchers and first timers like me, because we all have a different take on things, so if we're puzzled by something we see, someone gives us an answer!
I'm definitely in for the long haul now, and obviously next season (don't want to jump too far ahead yet!) i'll be looking out for some of the behaviour etc; that's been explained to me so far in this one. I should be on a course of prescribed medication for the ospraddiction by then!! lol :-O

Rinchen has posted on the LOTL blog that the pink material is moss, just some nice fresh nesting material.

Good morning Marjorie, thanks for your early updates - i was in work at 5 this morning for a few hours, so as i say, it's great to get a picture of events at the first time of asking!
Did you manage to source any Laphroaig on your shopping trip?! B :)

i.ve just slept 8 hours!! Believe me thats unusual. Nice to see everything is hunky dorey at the nest. Thanks for the updates everyone. Oh and that red stuff is def moss. Marge brought some in a few weeks ago. I joked that frank had brought in a bunch of flowers to the Mrs.

Just popped in to say Good Morning to everyone - The Family looks fine and things seem to be going according to plan at the moment. Fingers crossed. I am on Dog bathing duties in bit - my eldest Westie suffers with the dreaded Westie itch - but I have found a shampoo that really seems to suit her, and with none of chemicals that are in the ones the vets prescribe. Wonder who is going to get more wet, me or the dog - I'll give you three guesses.

I went on a walk round yesterday afternoon and was pleased with the amount of Whitethroats and the nesting Great Crested Grebes. I also saw my first wild otter on the Clyde, so was delighted!

Hi Nick,
No, I haven't gotten the Laphroaig yet; it was so hot yesterday I couldn't imagine drinking it, I just wanted to get my errands done and get home to drink iced tea. (By the way, in Washington State we can buy wine and beer at every grocery store, but the spirits are only sold in State stores and they don't seem to be near anywhere else I go.) I was going to drink a large Guinness later on, but didn't even get that far! Today I may be able to get it, and I might use my birthday as the excuse (28 June) to have a dram tomorrow evening.
Just woke up (I was up until 2AM my time, couldn't take my eyes off the Lady and brood and how good they looked!!!) Nice to see another glorious day at the Loch and Rinchen is doing a brilliant job at the camera. Those chicks are flapping their wings more all the time!
